The Edge of Seventeen (originally titled Besties) is a 2016 American coming-of-age comedy-drama film directed and written by Kelly Fremon Craig. The film stars Hailee Steinfeld, Haley Lu Richardson, Hayden Szeto, Blake Jenner, Woody Harrelson and Kyra Sedgwick. Principal photography began on October 21, 2015 in Vancouver and ended on December 3, 2015.
The film premiered at the 2016 Toronto International Film Festival on September 18, 2016 and was theatrically released on November 18, 2016 by STX Entertainment. It received positive reviews and grossed just over $17 million against its $9 million budget.
Everyone knows that growing up is hard, and life is no easier for high school junior Nadine, who is already at peak awkwardness when her all-star older brother Darian starts dating her best friend Krista. All at once, Nadine feels more alone than ever, until the unexpected friendship of a thoughtful boy gives her a glimmer of hope that things just might not be so terrible after all.
