Patriots Day (2016)

Patriots Day is a 2016 American drama film about the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing and the subsequent terrorist manhunt. The film is directed by Peter Berg and written by Berg, Matt Cook and Joshua Zetumer, based on the book Boston Strong by Casey Sherman and Dave Wedge. Patriots Day stars Mark Wahlberg, J. K. Simmons, John Goodman, Kevin Bacon, and Michelle Monaghan.

Principal photography began on March 29, 2016, in Quincy and Boston, Massachusetts. The film premiered on November 17, 2016, at the AFI Fest. Distributed by CBS Films and Lionsgate, Patriots Day opened in a limited release on December 21, 2016, to be followed by a nationwide expansion on January 13, 2017. The film was chosen by National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2016.

 

Tragedy strikes on April 15, 2013, when two bombs explode during the Boston Marathon. In the aftermath of the attack, police Sgt. Tommy Saunders (Mark Wahlberg), FBI Special Agent Richard DesLauriers (Kevin Bacon) and Commissioner Ed Davis (John Goodman) join courageous survivors, first responders and other investigators in a race against the clock to hunt down the suspects and bring them to justice.
