American Honey (2016)
American Honey is a 2016 British-American drama road film written and directed by the British filmmaker Andrea Arnold. The film stars Sasha Lane, Shia LaBeouf, and Riley Keough. It is Arnold’s first film to be set and filmed outside of the United Kingdom.
The film was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes it won the Prix du Jury. The film was released in the United States on September 30, 2016, by A24. It was then released in the United Kingdom on October 14, 2016 by Universal Pictures and Focus Features.
Star (Sasha Lane), an adolescent girl from a troubled home, runs away with a traveling sales crew that drives across the American Midwest selling subscriptions door-to-door. Finding her feet in this gang of teenagers, one of whom is Jake (Shia LaBeouf), she soon gets into the group’s lifestyle of hard-partying nights, law-bending days and young love.
