Burning (Hangul: 버닝; RR: Beoning) is a 2018 South Korean psychological drama mystery film directed by Lee Chang-dong. The film stars Yoo Ah-in, Steven Yeun, and Jeon Jong-seo. The film is based on the short story “Barn Burning“ by Haruki Murakami.^[3]It was selected to compete for the Palme d’Or at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival.^[4]^[5] It was also selected as the South Korean entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards,^[6] and made it onto the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film shortlist, becoming the first Korean film to do so.

Jong-su bumps into a girl who used to live in the same neighborhood as him, who asks him to look after her cat while on a trip to Africa. When back, she introduces Ben, a mysterious guy she met there, who confesses his secret hobby.
