Pulp Fiction<\/b><\/i> is a 1994 American crime film<\/a> written and directed by Quentin Tarantino<\/a>; it is based on a story by Tarantino and Roger Avary<\/a>.[4]<\/a><\/sup> Starring John Travolta<\/a>, Samuel L. Jackson<\/a>, Bruce Willis<\/a>, Tim Roth<\/a>, Ving Rhames<\/a>, and Uma Thurman<\/a>, it tells several stories of criminal Los Angeles. The film’s title refers to the pulp magazines<\/a> and hardboiled<\/a> crime novels popular during the mid-20th century, known for their graphic violence and punchy<\/a> dialogue. Tarantino wrote Pulp Fiction<\/i> in 1992 and 1993, incorporating scenes that Avary originally wrote for True Romance<\/a><\/i> (1993). Its plot occurs out of chronological order<\/a>. The film is also self-referential<\/a> from its opening moments, beginning with a title card<\/a> that gives two dictionary definitions of “pulp”. Considerable screen time is devoted to monologues and casual conversations with eclectic dialogue revealing each character’s perspectives on several subjects, and the film features an ironic<\/a> combination of humor and strong violence. TriStar Pictures<\/a> reportedly turned down the script as “too demented”. Miramax<\/a> co-chairman Harvey Weinstein<\/a> was enthralled, however, and the film became the first that Miramax fully financed.<\/p>\n

Vincent Vega (John Travolta) and Jules Winnfield (Samuel L. Jackson) are hitmen with a penchant for philosophical discussions. In this ultra-hip, multi-strand crime movie, their storyline is interwoven with those of their boss, gangster Marsellus Wallace (Ving Rhames) ; his actress wife, Mia (Uma Thurman) ; struggling boxer Butch Coolidge (Bruce Willis) ; master fixer Winston Wolfe (Harvey Keitel) and a nervous pair of armed robbers, “Pumpkin” (Tim Roth) and “Honey Bunny” (Amanda Plummer).<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
