Papillon<\/b><\/i> is a 2017 biographical<\/a> drama<\/a> film directed by Michael Noer. It tells the story of French convict Henri Charri\u00e8re<\/a> (Charlie Hunnam<\/a>), nicknamed Papillon<\/i> (“butterfly<\/a>“), who was imprisoned in 1933 in the notorious Devil’s Island<\/a> penal colony and escaped in 1941 with the help of another convict, counterfeiter Louis Dega<\/a> (Rami Malek<\/a>). The film’s screenplay is based on Charri\u00e8re’s autobiographies Papillon<\/a><\/i> and Banco<\/a><\/i>, as well as the former’s 1973 film adaptation<\/a>, which was written by Dalton Trumbo<\/a> and Lorenzo Semple Jr.<\/a> and starred Steve McQueen<\/a> and Dustin Hoffman<\/a>.[2]\u00a0<\/a><\/sup>Papillon<\/i> premiered on September 9, 2017, in the Special Presentations section at the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival<\/a>.[3]<\/a><\/sup>[2]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
