An adaptation of the <a title=\"King Lear\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_Lear\">play of the same name<\/a> by <a title=\"William Shakespeare\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Shakespeare\">William Shakespeare<\/a>, cut to just 115 minutes, was broadcast on <a title=\"BBC Two\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BBC_Two\">BBC Two<\/a> on 28 May 2018.<sup id=\"cite_ref-1\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/King_Lear_(2018_film)#cite_note-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup> The adaptation is set in an alternate universe 21st-century highly militarized London, with the sovereign King Lear calling his family together in order for him to announce the end of his reign and the division of his kingdom among his three daughters.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#4ce599;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#66ffb3;border-color:#ffffff;color:#101010;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\">The 80-year-old King Lear divides his kingdom among his daughters, Goneril, Regan and Cordelia, according to their affection for him. Cordelia refuses to flatter him, so he banishes her. Having acquired power, Goneril and Regan expel their father from their homes.
