Black ’47<\/b><\/i> is a 2018 Irish period drama<\/a> film directed by Lance Daly. The screenplay is by P.J. Dillon, Pierce Ryan, Eugene O’Brien and Lance Daly, based on the Irish language<\/a> short film An Ranger<\/i>, written and directed by Dillon and Ryan. The film stars Hugo Weaving<\/a>, James Frecheville<\/a>, Jim Broadbent<\/a>, Stephen Rea<\/a>, Freddie Fox<\/a>, Barry Keoghan<\/a>, Moe Dunford<\/a>, and Sarah Greene<\/a>. Set in Ireland during the Great Famine<\/a>, the film follows an Irish Ranger who has been fighting for the British Army abroad, as he abandons his post to reunite with his family. The title is taken from the most devastating year of the Great Irish Famine<\/a>, 1847, which is referred to as “Black ’47”.<\/p>\n

In 1847, an Irish Ranger returns from war to find that his mother has died in the famine and his brother is sentenced to death by the British. When his plan to emigrate to America fails, he starts a vendetta against the establishment in Ireland.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
