Saw<\/b><\/i>\u00a0is a\u00a0splatter film<\/a>\u00a0franchise<\/a>\u00a0created by Australian film makers\u00a0James Wan<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Leigh Whannell<\/a>. It consists of nine\u00a0feature films<\/a>\u00a0and additional media. The first eight films primarily revolve around\u00a0serial killer<\/a>\u00a0John Kramer<\/a>, also called the “Jigsaw Killer” or simply “Jigsaw”. He was introduced briefly in\u00a0Saw<\/a><\/i>\u00a0and developed in more detail in\u00a0Saw II<\/a><\/i>\u00a0and the subsequent films. Rather than killing his\u00a0victims<\/a>\u00a0outright, Kramer traps them in situations that he calls “tests” or “games” to test their will to live through physical or psychological torture and believes that if they survive, they will be “rehabilitated”. Despite the fact that Kramer was murdered in\u00a0Saw III<\/a><\/i>, the films continue to focus on the posthumous influence of the Jigsaw Killer and his apprentices by exploring his character via\u00a0flashbacks<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On July 22, 2010, franchise producer\u00a0Mark Burg<\/a>\u00a0confirmed that the seventh film,\u00a0Saw 3D<\/a><\/i>, is the final installment of the series.[1]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In 2012, Lionsgate reportedly expressed interest in continuing the franchise with a\u00a0reboot<\/a>.[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0In November 2013, it was reported that they were actively developing a sequel.[3]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0An eighth film,\u00a0Jigsaw<\/a><\/i>, was eventually released in October 2017. In 2019, a ninth film was announced and released in 2021,\u00a0Spiral<\/a><\/i>, with comedian and actor\u00a0Chris Rock<\/a>\u00a0attached to star, produce, and co-write.[4]<\/a><\/sup><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
