The film is set in 1970s Southern California<\/a> and based in-part on Mills’ childhood. The film stars Annette Bening<\/a>, Elle Fanning<\/a>, Greta Gerwig<\/a>, Lucas Jade Zumann and Billy Crudup<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The film had its world premiere at the New York Film Festival<\/a> as the Centerpiece on October 8, 2016.\u00a0and was released on December 28, 2016, by A24<\/a>.[6]<\/a><\/sup> The film was nominated for two Golden Globe Awards<\/a>, Best Motion Picture \u2013 Musical or Comedy<\/a> and Best Actress<\/a> for Bening, as well as Best Original Screenplay<\/a> at the 89th Academy Awards<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In 1979 Santa Barbara, Calif., Dorothea Fields is a determined single mother in her mid-50s who is raising her adolescent son, Jamie, at a moment brimming with cultural change and rebellion. Dorothea enlists the help of two younger women — Abbie, a free-spirited punk artist living as a boarder in the Fields’ home and Julie, a savvy and provocative teenage neighbor — to help with Jamie’s upbringing.<\/div><\/div>\n
