The New Legends of Monkey<\/b><\/i>\u00a0is an Australian-New Zealand television series inspired by\u00a0Monkey<\/a><\/i>, a Japanese production from the 1970s and 1980s which garnered a cult following in New Zealand, Australia, the U.K. and South Africa. The Japanese production was based on the 16th-century Chinese novel\u00a0Journey to the West<\/a><\/i>.[2]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0The series is an\u00a0international co-production<\/a>\u00a0between the\u00a0Australian Broadcasting Corporation<\/a>, New Zealand’s\u00a0TVNZ<\/a>\u00a0and American-based worldwide SVOD streaming service\u00a0Netflix<\/a>. The first season, consisting of ten episodes, premiered on the Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s\u00a0ABC Me<\/a>\u00a0television channel in Australia on 28 January 2018, and later debuted outside Australia and New Zealand on Netflix on 28 April. A second season, also ten episodes, was released on Netflix on August 7, 2020.[3]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
