Beyond: Two Souls<\/b><\/i>\u00a0is an\u00a0interactive drama<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0action-adventure game<\/a>\u00a0for the\u00a0PlayStation 3<\/a>,\u00a0PlayStation 4<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Microsoft Windows<\/a>, developed by\u00a0Quantic Dream<\/a>\u00a0and published by\u00a0Sony Computer Entertainment<\/a>. It was originally released on 8 October 2013, later being re-released for the PlayStation 4 on 24 November 2015. The\u00a0game<\/a>\u00a0features Jodie Holmes, one of two\u00a0player characters<\/a>. The other is an\u00a0incorporeal<\/a>\u00a0entity named Aiden: a separate soul linked to Jodie since birth. Jodie, who is portrayed by actress\u00a0Ellen Page<\/a>, possesses supernatural powers through her psychic link to Aiden, growing from adolescence to adulthood while learning to control Aiden and the powers they share.\u00a0Willem Dafoe<\/a>\u00a0co-stars as Nathan Dawkins, a researcher in the Department of Paranormal Activity and Jodie’s surrogate-father-figure. The actors in the game worked during the year-long project in Quantic Dream’s Paris studio to perform on-set\u00a0voice acting<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0motion-capture acting<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Despite being a video game,\u00a0Beyond: Two Souls<\/i>\u00a0premiered at the 2013\u00a0Tribeca Film Festival<\/a>, marking only the second time the film festival recognised a video game.\u00a0David Cage<\/a>, writer and director of the game, explained that game development studios should provide “interactive storytelling<\/a>” that can be played by everyone, including non-gamers. The game received polarised critical reception upon its release. Sales reached over one million copies two months after its worldwide release by the end of 2013. Two years later, a PlayStation 4 version was released, both as a standalone title and then in the\u00a0Quantic Dream Collection<\/i>\u00a0with the 2010 title\u00a0Heavy Rain<\/a><\/i>. A version for Microsoft Windows was released on 22 July 2019.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
