Command & Conquer<\/b><\/i>\u00a0(C&C<\/b><\/i>) is a\u00a0real-time strategy<\/a>\u00a0(RTS)\u00a0video game<\/a>\u00a0franchise<\/a>, first developed by\u00a0Westwood Studios<\/a>. The first game was one of the earliest of the RTS genre, itself based on Westwood Studios’ influential strategy game\u00a0Dune II<\/a><\/i>\u00a0and introducing trademarks followed in the rest of the series. This includes\u00a0full-motion video<\/a>\u00a0cutscenes<\/a>\u00a0with an\u00a0ensemble cast<\/a>\u00a0to progress the story, as opposed to digitally in-game\u00a0rendered<\/a>\u00a0cutscenes. Westwood Studios was taken over by\u00a0Electronic Arts<\/a>\u00a0in 1998 and closed down in 2003. The studio and some of its members were absorbed into\u00a0EA Los Angeles<\/a>, which continued development on the series.<\/p>\n

<\/span>EA announced in November 2018 its plans to remaster\u00a0Command & Conquer<\/i>, including expansions and\u00a0Red Alert<\/i>, for modern computer systems through\u00a0Petroglyph Games<\/a>. It was released on June 5, 2020.[43]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0Along with the release, EA also released the source code to the\u00a0mod<\/a>\u00a0libraries for the base game and\u00a0Red Alert<\/i>\u00a0into\u00a0open source<\/a>\u00a0as to allow players to build improved mods for the games.[44]<\/a><\/sup><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
