Team Sonic Racing<\/b><\/i>\u00a0is a 2019\u00a0kart racing game<\/a>\u00a0and a\u00a0spin-off<\/a>\u00a0from\u00a0Sega<\/a>‘s\u00a0Sonic the Hedgehog<\/a><\/i>\u00a0series. Controlling one of 15 characters from\u00a0the series’ cast<\/a>, players compete in races using\u00a0sports cars<\/a>. They view gameplay from a\u00a0third-person<\/a>\u00a0perspective while performing tricks,\u00a0drifting<\/a>, and collecting\u00a0power-ups<\/a>.\u00a0Team Sonic Racing<\/i>\u00a0differs from traditional kart racers because of its focus on\u00a0cooperative gameplay<\/a>, similar to the kind featured in\u00a0Splatoon<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2015) and\u00a0Overwatch<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2016)\u2014players are part of a team of racers and win races through efficiency rather than speed.\u00a0Game modes<\/a>\u00a0include competing to earn\u00a0points<\/a>,\u00a0time trials<\/a>, customizing the racing rules, and a story-driven tutorial\u00a0campaign<\/a>.<\/p>\n

<\/span>Sumo Digital<\/a>, which had previously worked on\u00a0Sonic & Sega All-Stars Racing<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2010) and\u00a0Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2012), developed\u00a0Team Sonic Racing<\/i>.\u00a0Sonic Team<\/a>\u00a0head\u00a0Takashi Iizuka<\/a>\u00a0conceived the cooperative gameplay, and Sumo Digital used the team-based\u00a0Sonic Heroes<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2003) as a point of reference. Unlike Sumo Digital’s previous racing games,\u00a0Team Sonic Racing<\/i>\u00a0only features\u00a0Sonic<\/i>\u00a0characters, as the team wanted to expand the series’ world and character roster. They aimed to make the game stand out compared to other racing games and developed it using a modified version of the\u00a0All-Stars<\/i>\u00a0game engine<\/a>. Musician\u00a0Jun Senoue<\/a>, who had not contributed to a major\u00a0Sonic<\/i>\u00a0game since\u00a0Generations<\/a><\/i>\u00a0(2011), composed the soundtrack.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
