Kubo and the Two Strings<\/b><\/i> is a 2016 American 3D<\/a> stop-motion<\/a> fantasy<\/a> action<\/a>–adventure film<\/a> directed and co-produced by Travis Knight<\/a> (in his directorial debut) and written by Marc Haimes and Chris Butler. It stars the voices of Art Parkinson<\/a>, Charlize Theron<\/a>, Matthew McConaughey<\/a>, Ralph Fiennes<\/a>, Rooney Mara<\/a> and George Takei<\/a> and is Laika<\/a>‘s fourth feature film produced.<\/a> The film revolves around Kubo, who has magical powers and whose left eye was stolen. Accompanied by Monkey and Beetle, they must subdue the Sisters, Raiden the Moon King and his army of evil spirits.<\/p>\n

The film premiered at Melbourne International Film Festival<\/a> on August 13, 2016 and was released by Focus Features<\/a> in the United States on August 19. It received critical acclaim but grossed just $68 million against its $60 million budget.<\/p>\n

Young Kubo’s (Art Parkinson) peaceful existence comes crashing down when he accidentally summons a vengeful spirit from the past. Now on the run, Kubo joins forces with Monkey (Charlize Theron) and Beetle (Matthew McConaughey) to unlock a secret legacy. Armed with a magical instrument, Kubo must battle the Moon King (Ralph Fiennes) and other gods and monsters to save his family and solve the mystery of his fallen father, the greatest samurai warrior the world has ever known.<\/div><\/div>\n
