War Dogs<\/b><\/i> is a 2016 American comedy<\/a> drama film<\/a> directed by Todd Phillips<\/a> and written by Phillips, Jason Smilovic<\/a> and Stephen Chin, based on a Rolling Stone<\/a><\/i>article by Guy Lawson. Lawson then wrote a book titled Arms and the Dudes<\/i> detailing the story.\u00a0The film follows two arms dealers<\/a>, Efraim Diveroli<\/a> and David Packouz<\/a>, who receive a US Army contract to supply munitions for the Afghan National Army<\/a> worth approximately $300 million.\u00a0The film is heavily fictionalized and dramatized,\u00a0and some of its events, such as the duo driving through Iraq<\/a>, were either invented or based on other events, such as screenwriter Stephen Chin’s own experiences.<\/p>\n

The film stars Jonah Hill<\/a>, Miles Teller<\/a>, Ana de Armas<\/a> and Bradley Cooper<\/a>, who also co-produced. Filming began on March 2, 2015 in Romania<\/a>. The film premiered in New York City<\/a> on August 3, 2016 and was theatrically released by Warner Bros. Pictures<\/a> on August 19, 2016. It received negative to mixed reviews from critics, and grossed over $85 million.<\/p>\n

With the war in Iraq raging on, Efraim Diveroli offers childhood friend David Packouz a chance to make big bucks by becoming an international arms dealer. Together, they exploit a government initiative that allows businesses to bid on U.S. military contracts. Starting small allows the duo to rake in money and live the high life. They soon find themselves in over their heads after landing a $300 million deal to supply Afghan forces, a deal that puts them in business with some very shady people.<\/div><\/div>\n
