The Crown<\/b><\/i> is a historical drama<\/a> television series about the reign of Queen Elizabeth II<\/a>. Created and principally written by Peter Morgan<\/a>, and produced by Left Bank Pictures<\/a> and Sony Pictures Television<\/a> for Netflix<\/a>, The Crown<\/i> evolved out of Morgan’s film The Queen<\/a><\/i> (2006) and stage play The Audience<\/a><\/i> (2013). The first season covers the period from Queen Elizabeth’s marriage to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh<\/a>, in 1947 to the disintegration of her sister Princess Margaret<\/a>‘s engagement to Group Captain<\/a>Peter Townsend<\/a> in 1955. The second season covers the period from the Suez Crisis<\/a> in 1956 to the retirement of the Queen’s third prime minister, Harold Macmillan<\/a>, in 1963 and the birth of Prince Edward<\/a> in 1964. The third season<\/a> spans the period between 1964 and 1977, including Harold Wilson<\/a>‘s two periods as prime minister, while the fourth will include Margaret Thatcher<\/a>‘s premiership and introduce Lady Diana Spencer<\/a>.[4]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n
