Inside Out<\/b><\/i> is a 2015 American 3D<\/a> computer-animated<\/a> comedy<\/a> film produced by Pixar Animation Studios<\/a> and released by Walt Disney Pictures<\/a>. The film was directed by Pete Docter<\/a> and co-directed by Ronnie del Carmen<\/a>, with a screenplay written by Docter, Meg LeFauve<\/a> and Josh Cooley<\/a>, adapted from a story by Docter and del Carmen. The film is set in the mind of a young girl named Riley (Kaitlyn Dias<\/a>), where five personified emotions<\/a>\u2014Joy (Amy Poehler<\/a>), Sadness (Phyllis Smith<\/a>), Anger (Lewis Black<\/a>), Fear (Bill Hader<\/a>) and Disgust (Mindy Kaling<\/a>)\u2014try to lead her through life as she and her parents (Diane Lane<\/a> and Kyle MacLachlan<\/a>) adjust to their new surroundings after moving from Minnesota<\/a> to San Francisco<\/a>. Docter first began developing Inside Out<\/i> in 2010, after noticing changes in his daughter’s personality as she grew older. The film’s producers consulted numerous psychologists<\/a> including Dacher Keltner<\/a> from the University of California, Berkeley<\/a>,[5]<\/a><\/sup> who helped revise the story by emphasizing the neuropsychological<\/a> findings that human emotions<\/a> affect interpersonal relationships<\/a> and can be significantly moderated by them.[6]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n

After young Riley is uprooted from her Midwest life and moved to San Francisco, her emotions – Joy, Fear, Anger, Disgust and Sadness – conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house, and school.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
