Cities of Last Things<\/b><\/i> is a drama film, directed by Ho Wi Ding and released in 2018.[1] <\/a><\/sup>The film opens with the suicide<\/a> of Zhang Dong Ling and then tells, in reverse chronological order, the story of three key incidents from his life leading up to the fateful decision.[2]<\/a><\/sup> Each of the three segments draws from a different genre: the first segment is a science fiction<\/a> story set in a dystopian vision of the year 2035, the second a film noir<\/a> segment focusing on Zhang’s earlier job as a police officer, and the third a melodrama<\/a> about Zhang’s childhood encounter with a local organized crime boss.[1] <\/a><\/sup>Zhang is portrayed by Jack Kao<\/a> in the first segment, Lee Hong-chi<\/a> in the second, and Hsieh Chang-Ying in the third.[2]<\/a><\/sup> The cast also includes Huang Lu<\/a> and Louise Grinberg<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This is a story about a common man who has extraordinary events in his mundane life. The film depicts the protagonist’s turns of events in three eras, three seasons, three nights, in the same city, as told with reverse chronology.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
