Barfi!<\/b><\/i> is a 2012 Indian comedy-drama<\/a> film co-produced, written and directed by Anurag Basu<\/a>. Set in the 1970s, the film depicts the story of Murphy “Barfi” Johnson (a deaf-mute Nepali boy from Darjeeling<\/a>) and his relationships with two women, Shruti and Jhilmil (who is autistic<\/a>). The film stars Ranbir Kapoor<\/a>, Priyanka Chopra<\/a>, and Ileana D’Cruz<\/a> in the lead roles, with Saurabh Shukla<\/a>, Ashish Vidyarthi<\/a>, Jisshu Sengupta<\/a> and Roopa Ganguly<\/a> in supporting roles.Made on a budget of approximately \u20b9<\/a>30 crore<\/a><\/span> (US$4.3\u00a0million), Barfi!<\/i> opened worldwide on 14 September 2012. The film was a box office success, becoming one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of 2012<\/a> in India and overseas. The film went on to gross \u20b91.75 billion<\/span> (US$25\u00a0million) worldwide.The film was selected as India’s official entry<\/a> for the Best Foreign Language Film<\/a> nomination for the 85th Academy Awards<\/a>.
