Agneepath<\/b><\/i> (transl.<\/abbr>\u2009The path of fire) is a 2012 Indian action<\/a> drama<\/a> film produced by Hiroo Yash Johar and Karan Johar<\/a> under the banner of Dharma Productions<\/a>. It is a reboot<\/a> of the 1990 film of the same name<\/a> and was directed by Johar’s former assistant Karan Malhotra<\/a>. The screenplay was written by Malhotra along with Ila Dutta Bedi.After the first draft of dialogues Karan Malhotra appointed Avinash Ghodke as an Additional Dialogue writer and improviser. Johar pays tribute to his father, Yash Johar<\/a>, the producer of the original, through the film.[4]<\/a><\/sup> The music of the film was composed by Ajay-Atul<\/a>, with lyrics written by Amitabh Bhattacharya<\/a>. Though publicised as a remake, the film borrows only the basic plot of the original, while making the characters and incidents completely different. The film’s title was taken from a poem of the same name by Harivansh Rai Bachchan<\/a>, which forms a thematic link through the film, both literally and metaphorically.[5] <\/a><\/sup>Hrithik Roshan<\/a> plays the lead role of Vijay Deenanath Chauhan<\/a> and Sanjay Dutt<\/a> plays the role of the antagonist Kancha Cheena, originally played by Amitabh Bachchan<\/a> and Danny Denzongpa<\/a> respectively, with Rishi Kapoor<\/a> portraying the newly introduced character of Rauf Lala.[6]<\/a><\/sup> The supporting cast include Om Puri<\/a> as Commissioner Gaitonde, Priyanka Chopra<\/a> as Kaali Gawde and Zarina Wahab<\/a> as Suhasini Chauhan, with Katrina Kaif<\/a> featuring in an item number<\/a>.[7]<\/a><\/sup>[8]<\/a><\/sup>[9]<\/a><\/sup> The film follows the struggle of a common man, Vijay Chauhan, as he seeks revenge from Kancha, for wrongly framing and murdering his father in the island village of Mandwa. In the process he befriends an underworld drug lord Rauf Lala and falls in love with a loquacious girl, Kaali Gawde.<\/p>\n
