Hellboy<\/b><\/i> is a 2019 American supernatural<\/a> superhero film<\/a> based on the Dark Horse Comics<\/a> character of the same name<\/a>. Directed by Neil Marshall<\/a>, the film stars David Harbour<\/a> in the title role, alongside Milla Jovovich<\/a>, Ian McShane<\/a>, Sasha Lane<\/a>, Daniel Dae Kim<\/a>, and Thomas Haden Church<\/a>. It is a reboot of the Hellboy<\/i> film series<\/a>, and the third live-action film in the franchise. The film draws inspiration from the comic books Darkness Calls<\/a><\/i>, The Wild Hunt<\/a><\/i>, The Storm and the Fury<\/a><\/i>, and Hellboy in Mexico<\/a><\/i>.The project began as a sequel to Hellboy II: The Golden Army<\/a><\/i> (2008), with Andrew Cosby<\/a> and Hellboy<\/i> creator Mike Mignola<\/a> writing the script. Guillermo del Toro<\/a> was not offered the full writer-director capacity he had performed in the first two films, and Ron Perlman<\/a>, who portrayed Hellboy in the previous films, refused to return without del Toro’s involvement. The project was turned into an R-rated<\/a> reboot<\/a> after Marshall was hired as the director and Harbour cast as Hellboy. Principal photography<\/a> began in September 2017 in the United Kingdom<\/a> and Bulgaria<\/a> and ended in December 2017.Hellboy<\/i> was released in the United States on April 12, 2019, by Lionsgate<\/a> in standard 2D and IMAX<\/a>. The film received negative reviews from critics, with many comparing it unfavorably to the previous films.<\/p>\n
