The Treasure of the Sierra Madre<\/b><\/i> is a 1948 American<\/a> dramatic<\/a> adventurous<\/a> neo-western<\/a> written and directed by John Huston<\/a>. It is an adaptation of B. Traven<\/a>‘s 1927 novel of the same name<\/a>, set in the 1920s, in which, driven by their desperate economic plight, two young men, Fred C. Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart<\/a>) and Bob Curtin (Tim Holt<\/a>), join old-timer Howard (Walter Huston<\/a>, the director’s father) in Mexico<\/a> to prospect for gold.\u00a0The Treasure of the Sierra Madre<\/i> was one of the first Hollywood productions to be shot on location<\/a> outside the United States (in the state of Durango<\/a> with street scenes in Tampico<\/a>, Mexico), although many scenes were filmed back in the studio and elsewhere in the US. The movie is quite faithful to the source novel. In 1990, the film was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry<\/a> by the Library of Congress<\/a> as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant”.<\/p>\n

In this classic adventure film, two rough-and-tumble wanderers, Dobbs (Humphrey Bogart) and Curtin (Tim Holt), meet up with a veteran prospector, Howard (Walter Huston), in Mexico and head into the Sierra Madre mountains to find gold. Although they discover treasure, they also find plenty of trouble, not only from ruthless bandits lurking in the dangerous Mexican wilderness but from their own insecurities and greed, which threaten to bring conflict at any moment.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
