Ghostbusters<\/b><\/i> is a 2016 American supernatural<\/a> comedy film<\/a> directed by Paul Feig<\/a> and written by Feig and Katie Dippold<\/a>. The third feature film in the Ghostbusters<\/i> franchise<\/a>, it stars Melissa McCarthy<\/a>, Kristen Wiig<\/a>, Kate McKinnon<\/a>, and Leslie Jones<\/a> as four women who start a ghost-catching<\/a> business in New York City. Charles Dance<\/a>, Michael Kenneth Williams<\/a>, and Chris Hemsworth<\/a> also star.<\/p>\n

A third Ghostbusters<\/i> film had been in various stages of development following the release of Ghostbusters II<\/a><\/i> in 1989. As a result of original cast member Bill Murray<\/a>‘s refusal to commit to the project and the death of fellow cast member Harold Ramis<\/a> in 2014, Sony decided to reboot<\/a> the series with much of the original film’s cast in cameo<\/a> roles. The female cast was announced in 2015 and attracted significant controversy.<\/p>\n

Distributed by Columbia Pictures<\/a>, the film premiered at the TCL Chinese Theatre<\/a> in Los Angeles<\/a> on July 9, 2016, and was theatrically released in the United States on July 15, 2016, in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D. Ghostbusters<\/i>has grossed $159 million worldwide.<\/p>\n

Paranormal researcher Abby Yates (Melissa McCarthy) and physicist Erin Gilbert are trying to prove that ghosts exist in modern society. When strange apparitions appear in Manhattan, Gilbert and Yates turn to engineer Jillian Holtzmann for help. Also joining the team is Patty Tolan, a lifelong New Yorker who knows the city inside and out. Armed with proton packs and plenty of attitude, the four women prepare for an epic battle as more than 1,000 mischievous ghouls descend on Times Square.<\/div><\/div>\n
