The film follows <a title=\"Frank Hamer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Frank_Hamer\">Frank Hamer<\/a> and Maney Gault (<a title=\"Kevin Costner\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kevin_Costner\">Kevin Costner<\/a> and <a title=\"Woody Harrelson\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Woody_Harrelson\">Woody Harrelson<\/a>), two Texas Rangers who attempt to track down and apprehend notorious criminals <a title=\"Bonnie and Clyde\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Bonnie_and_Clyde\">Bonnie and Clyde<\/a> in the 1930s. <a title=\"Kathy Bates\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kathy_Bates\">Kathy Bates<\/a>, <a title=\"John Carroll Lynch\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_Carroll_Lynch\">John Carroll Lynch<\/a>, <a title=\"Kim Dickens\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Kim_Dickens\">Kim Dickens<\/a>, <a title=\"Thomas Mann (actor)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Thomas_Mann_(actor)\">Thomas Mann<\/a> and <a title=\"William Sadler (actor)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Sadler_(actor)\">William Sadler<\/a> also star. The film had been in development for many years, with producer <a title=\"Casey Silver\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Casey_Silver\">Casey Silver<\/a> looking into the project as early as 2005. Originally pitched by Fusco as a possible <a title=\"Paul Newman\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paul_Newman\">Paul Newman<\/a> and <a title=\"Robert Redford\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Robert_Redford\">Robert Redford<\/a> project, the film began development at <a title=\"Universal Pictures\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Universal_Pictures\">Universal Pictures<\/a> but never came to fruition. In February 2018, it was reported <a title=\"Netflix\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Netflix\">Netflix<\/a> had picked up the rights to the film and that Costner and Harrelson would star. Filming took place later that month and in March, shooting around <a title=\"Louisiana\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Louisiana\">Louisiana<\/a> and at several historical sites, including the road where Bonnie and Clyde were killed.\u00a0<i>The Highwaymen<\/i> began a limited theatrical release in the United States on March 15, 2019 and was released digitally on March 29, 2019 on Netflix.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div class=\"su-note\"  style=\"border-color:#4ce599;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\"><div class=\"su-note-inner su-u-clearfix su-u-trim\" style=\"background-color:#66ffb3;border-color:#ffffff;color:#101010;border-radius:3px;-moz-border-radius:3px;-webkit-border-radius:3px;\">A pair of police officers come out of retirement to catch the infamous outlaws Bonnie &amp;
