The Salesman<\/b><\/i> (Persian<\/a>: \u0641\u0631\u0648\u0634\u0646\u062f\u0647<\/span>\u200e, translit.<\/a>\u00a0<\/small>Foru\u0161ande<\/i>, released in France as Le Client<\/i>) is a 2016 drama film<\/a> written and directed by Asghar Farhadi<\/a> and starring Taraneh Alidoosti<\/a> and Shahab Hosseini<\/a>. It is about a married couple who perform Arthur Miller<\/a>‘s play Death of a Salesman<\/a><\/i> on stage, when the wife is assaulted. Her husband attempts to determine the identity of the attacker, while she struggles to cope with post-trauma stress. Farhadi chose Miller’s play as his story within a story<\/a> based on shared themes. A co-production between Iran and France, the film was shot in Tehran<\/a>, beginning in 2015. The film premiered in competition in the 2016 Cannes Film Festival<\/a>, where it won two awards\u2014Best Screenplay<\/a> for Farhadi and Best Actor<\/a> for Hosseini. The Salesman<\/i> went on to receive more positive reviews, and won the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film<\/a>. However, Farhadi did not attend the 89th Academy Awards<\/a> ceremony in protest of the U.S. Executive Order 13769<\/a>.<\/p>\n

After their flat becomes damaged, Emad (Shahab Hosseini) and Rana (Taraneh Alidoosti), a young couple living in Tehran, Iran, must move into another apartment. Once relocated, a sudden eruption of violence linked to the previous tenant of their new home dramatically changes their lives, creating a simmering tension between husband and wife.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
