Holmes & Watson<\/b><\/i> is a 2018 American mystery<\/a> buddy<\/a> comedy film<\/a> written and directed by Etan Cohen<\/a>. The film stars Will Ferrell<\/a> and John C. Reilly<\/a> as the eponymous characters Sherlock Holmes<\/a> and Dr. Watson<\/a>, with Rebecca Hall<\/a>, Rob Brydon<\/a>, Steve Coogan<\/a>, and Ralph Fiennes<\/a> in supporting roles. The plot follows the famed detective duo as they set out to find the culprit behind a threat at Buckingham Palace<\/a>. First announced in 2008 with Sacha Baron Cohen<\/a> as Holmes and Ferrell as Watson, Holmes & Watson<\/i> languished in development hell<\/a> for several years before Ferrell and Reilly were confirmed for their eventual roles in July 2016, and Etan Cohen was announced as director. Filming took place around London<\/a> from late 2016 to early 2017. It is the fourth collaboration between Ferrell and Reilly after Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby<\/a><\/i> (2006), Step Brothers<\/a><\/i> (2008) and Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues<\/a><\/i> (2013), though the first not to be directed by Adam McKay<\/a> (who produced here).\u00a0Holmes & Watson<\/i> was released in the United States on December 25, 2018 by Sony Pictures Releasing<\/a>, through its Columbia Pictures<\/a> label. The film grossed over $41 million worldwide on a $42 million budget and was panned by critics, who lamented the poor script, dated jokes and its squandering of the cast and source material. Some critics labelled it the worst film of 2018<\/a>.[3]<\/a><\/sup> Numerous sources reported that audiences walked out early during screenings, and The Verge<\/a><\/i> noted that the film’s critical and commercial failure illustrates a shift within the industry away from broad comedy films starring A-list<\/a> actors.[4]<\/a><\/sup> The film was nominated for six Razzies<\/a>, and won four of them, including Worst Picture<\/a>.<\/p>\n
