All About Eve<\/b><\/i> is a 1950 American drama film<\/a> written and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz<\/a>, and produced by Darryl F. Zanuck<\/a>. It was based on the 1946 short story “The Wisdom of Eve<\/a>” by Mary Orr<\/a>, although screen credit was not given for it. The film stars Bette Davis<\/a> as Margo Channing, a highly regarded but aging Broadway<\/a> star. Anne Baxter<\/a> plays Eve Harrington, an ambitious young fan<\/a> who insinuates herself into Channing’s life, ultimately threatening Channing’s career and her personal relationships. The film co-stars George Sanders<\/a>, Celeste Holm<\/a>, and features Gary Merrill<\/a>, Hugh Marlowe<\/a>, Thelma Ritter<\/a>, Marilyn Monroe<\/a> in one of her earliest roles, Gregory Ratoff<\/a>, Barbara Bates<\/a> and Walter Hampden<\/a>. Praised by critics at the time of its release, All About Eve<\/i> received a record 14 Academy Award<\/a> nominations[notes 1]<\/a><\/sup> and won six, including Best Picture<\/a>. All About Eve<\/i> is the only film in Oscar<\/a> history to receive four female acting nominations (Davis and Baxter as Best Actress<\/a>, Holm and Ritter as Best Supporting Actress<\/a>). Backstage story revolving around aspiring actress Eve Harrington. Tattered and forlorn, Eve shows up in the dressing room of Broadway mega-star Margo Channing, telling a melancholy life story to Margo and her friends.
