Rashomon<\/b><\/i> (\u7f85\u751f\u9580<\/span> Rash\u014dmon<\/i>) is a 1950 Japanese period psychological thriller<\/a> film directed by Akira Kurosawa<\/a>, working in close collaboration with cinematographer<\/a>Kazuo Miyagawa<\/a>.[2]<\/a><\/sup> It stars Toshiro Mifune<\/a>, Machiko Ky\u014d<\/a>, Masayuki Mori<\/a>, and Takashi Shimura<\/a>. While the film borrows the title from Ry\u016bnosuke Akutagawa<\/a>‘s short story “Rash\u014dmon<\/a>“, it is actually based on Akutagawa’s short story of 1922 “In a Grove<\/a>“, which provides the characters and plot. The film is known for a plot device that involves various characters providing subjective, alternative, self-serving and contradictory versions of the same incident. Rashomon<\/i> marked the entrance of Japanese film<\/a> onto the world stage;[3]<\/a><\/sup>[4]<\/a><\/sup> it won several awards, including the Golden Lion<\/a> at the Venice Film Festival<\/a> in 1951, and an Academy Honorary Award<\/a> at the 24th Academy Awards<\/a> in 1952, and is considered one of the greatest films ever made<\/a>. The Rashomon effect<\/a> is named after the film.<\/p>\n

Brimming with action while incisively examining the nature of truth, “Rashomon” is perhaps the finest film ever to investigate the philosophy of justice. Through an ingenious use of camera and flashbacks, Kurosawa reveals the complexities of human nature as four people recount different versions of the story of a man’s murder and the rape of his wife.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
