The Kid <\/b><\/i>is a 1921 American silent<\/a> comedy-drama film<\/a> written by, produced by, directed by, and starring Charlie Chaplin<\/a>, and features Jackie Coogan<\/a>[4]<\/a><\/sup> as his adopted son and sidekick. This was Chaplin’s first full-length film as a director (he had been a co-star in 1914’s Tillie’s Punctured Romance<\/a><\/i>). It was a huge success, and was the second-highest-grossing film in 1921, behind The Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse<\/a><\/i>. In 2011, The Kid<\/i> was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry<\/a> by the Library of Congress<\/a> as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” Innovative in its combination of comedic and dramatic elements,[5]<\/a><\/sup> The Kid<\/i> is widely considered one of the greatest films of the silent era<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Chaplin’s first full-length feature is a silent masterpiece about a little tramp who discovers a little orphan and brings him up but is left desolate when the orphanage reclaims him. Chaplin directed, produced and starred in the film, as well as composed the score.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
