Whisper of the Heart<\/b><\/i> (Japanese<\/a>: \u8033\u3092\u3059\u307e\u305b\u3070<\/span> Hepburn<\/a>: Mimi o Sumaseba<\/i>, literally “If you listen closely”) is a 1995 Japanese animated<\/a> romantic drama film directed by Yoshifumi Kond\u014d<\/a> and written by Hayao Miyazaki<\/a> based on the 1989 manga of the same name by Aoi Hiiragi<\/a>. It was animated by Studio Ghibli<\/a> for Tokuma Shoten<\/a>, Nippon Television Network<\/a> and Hakuhodo<\/a>, and distributed by Toho<\/a>. The film stars Yoko Honna<\/a>, Issei Takahashi, Takashi Tachibana, Shigeru Muroi<\/a>, Shigeru Tsuyuguchi<\/a> and Keiju Kobayashi<\/a>. It was the first theatrical Studio Ghibli<\/a> film to be directed by someone other than Miyazaki or Isao Takahata<\/a>.\u00a0Whisper of the Heart<\/i> was Kond\u014d’s only film as director before his death in 1998. Studio Ghibli had hoped that Kond\u014d would become the successor to Miyazaki and Takahata.[1]\u00a0<\/a><\/sup>It was the only Ghibli film not directed by Miyazaki or Takahata for seven years until The Cat Returns<\/a><\/i> was released in 2002, which focused on a minor character of the film, Baron.<\/p>\n
