The film is directed by <a title=\"Joshua Oppenheimer\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Joshua_Oppenheimer\">Joshua Oppenheimer<\/a> and co-directed by Christine Cynn and an anonymous Indonesian.<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Act_of_Killing#cite_note-4\">[4]\u00a0<\/a><\/sup>It is a Danish-British-Norwegian <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"International co-production\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/International_co-production\">co-production<\/a>, presented by Final Cut for Real in Denmark and produced by Signe Byrge S\u00f8rensen. The executive producers were <a title=\"Werner Herzog\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Werner_Herzog\">Werner Herzog<\/a>, <a title=\"Errol Morris\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Errol_Morris\">Errol Morris<\/a>, Joram ten Brink, and <a title=\"Andr\u00e9 Singer (producer)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Andr%C3%A9_Singer_(producer)\">Andre Singer<\/a>. It is a <a title=\"Docwest\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Docwest\">Docwest<\/a> project of the <a title=\"University of Westminster\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/University_of_Westminster\">University of Westminster<\/a>.\u00a0<i>The Act of Killing<\/i> won the 2013 European Film Award for Best Documentary, the Asia Pacific Screen Award, and was nominated for the <a title=\"Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Academy_Award_for_Best_Documentary_Feature\">Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature<\/a> at the <a title=\"86th Academy Awards\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/86th_Academy_Awards\">86th Academy Awards<\/a>.<sup id=\"cite_ref-Oscar_Nom_5-0\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Act_of_Killing#cite_note-Oscar_Nom-5\">[5]<\/a><\/sup> It also won best documentary at the <a title=\"67th British Academy Film Awards\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/67th_British_Academy_Film_Awards\">67th BAFTA awards<\/a>. In accepting the award, Oppenheimer asserted that the United States and the United Kingdom have &#8220;collective responsibility&#8221; for &#8220;participating in and ignoring&#8221; the crimes,<sup id=\"cite_ref-6\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Act_of_Killing#cite_note-6\">[6]<\/a><\/sup> which was omitted from the video <a class=\"mw-redirect\" title=\"BAFTA\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/BAFTA\">BAFTA<\/a> posted online.<sup id=\"cite_ref-7\" class=\"reference\"><a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Act_of_Killing#cite_note-7\">[7]<\/a><\/sup> After a screening for <a title=\"United States Congress\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/United_States_Congress\">US Congress members<\/a>, Oppenheimer demanded that the US acknowledge <a title=\"Indonesian mass killings of 1965\u201366\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Indonesian_mass_killings_of_1965%E2%80%9366#Foreign_involvement\">its role<\/a> in the killings.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><div
