Princess Mononoke<\/b><\/i> (Japanese<\/a>: \u3082\u306e\u306e\u3051\u59eb<\/span> Hepburn<\/a>: Mononoke-hime<\/a><\/i>, “Spirit\/Monster Princess”) is a 1997 Japanese animated<\/a> epic<\/a> historical fantasy<\/a> war<\/a> film written and directed by Hayao Miyazaki<\/a>, animated by Studio Ghibli<\/a> for Tokuma Shoten<\/a>, Nippon Television Network<\/a> and Dentsu<\/a>, and distributed by Toho<\/a>. The film stars the voices of Y\u014dji Matsuda<\/a>, Yuriko Ishida<\/a>, Y\u016bko Tanaka<\/a>, Kaoru Kobayashi<\/a>, Masahiko Nishimura<\/a>, Tsunehiko Kamijo<\/a>, Akihiro Miwa<\/a>, Mitsuko Mori<\/a> and Hisaya Morishige<\/a>.\u00a0Princess Mononoke<\/i> is set in the late Muromachi period<\/a> (approximately 1336 to 1573) of Japan with fantasy elements. The story follows the young Emishi<\/a> prince Ashitaka’s involvement in a struggle between the gods of a forest and the humans who consume its resources. The term “Mononoke<\/a>” (\u7269\u306e\u602a<\/span>) or \u3082\u306e\u306e\u3051<\/span> is not a name, but a Japanese word for a spirit or monster: supernatural, shape-shifting beings. The film was released in Japan on July 12, 1997, and in the United States on October 29, 1999.<\/p>\n

On a journey to find the cure for a Tatarigami’s curse, Ashitaka finds himself in the middle of a war between the forest gods and Tatara, a mining colony. In this quest he also meets San, the Mononoke Hime.<\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
