Memento<\/b><\/i> is a 2000 American neo-noir<\/a> psychological thriller<\/a> film written and directed by Christopher Nolan<\/a>, and produced by Suzanne<\/a> and Jennifer Todd<\/a>. The film’s script was based on a pitch<\/a> by Jonathan Nolan<\/a>, who later wrote the story “Memento Mori<\/a>” from the concept. It stars Guy Pearce<\/a>, Carrie-Anne Moss<\/a>, and Joe Pantoliano<\/a>. Pearce stars as a man who, as a result of a past trauma, has anterograde amnesia<\/a> (the inability to form new memories) and has short-term memory loss approximately every five minutes. He is searching for the persons who attacked him and killed his wife, using an intricate system of Polaroid<\/a> photographs and tattoos to track information he cannot remember. Memento<\/i> is presented as two different sequences of scenes interspersed during the film: a series in black-and-white that is shown chronologically, and a series of color sequences shown in reverse order (simulating for the audience the mental state of the protagonist). The two sequences meet at the end of the film, producing one complete and cohesive narrative.<\/p>\n

Leonard (Guy Pearce) is tracking down the man who raped and murdered his wife. The difficulty, however, of locating his wife’s killer is compounded by the fact that he suffers from a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. Although he can recall details of life before his accident, Leonard cannot remember what happened fifteen minutes ago, where he’s going, or why.<\/span><\/div><\/div><\/span><\/p>\n
